You may be wondering why we are talking about tulips in the winter, and that’s a fair question! While the rest of you gear up for Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions the team at Bloom is focused on the Spring. That’s right, tulip bulbs are officially planted for the 2020 season, another thing to add to the list of celebration!

Alexis, Bloom’s founder who was expecting at the time of planting, has now given birth to her first child, Andi Marie. Welcome to the world little one, and thank you Alexis for your dedication to Bloom – the show must go on! The process of tulip bulb planting is certainly no small feat, but like every year, a good time was had by all.

Here’s how it works. First, using a plough and harrow the field is prepped to make the ground easy to plant in. Next using a bed planter, bulbs are planted in the ground. After planting, the rows of bulbs are covered with straw for added insulation over the winter. We then wait patiently for the tulips to start growing in the early spring. We plant approximately 175,000 bulbs per acre, which works out to be close to 2 million bulbs over the 10 acre festival field.

All this for more BLOOM!

We’re excited to share with you all the varieties we have chosen for this season, as a lot of them have yet to be seen in our fields. However, we also have some fan favourite varieties making a comeback to celebrate our 5TH YEAR OF BLOOM! Time certainly does fly when you’re having fun, thanks for being apart of it.

See you in the Spring!

Xoxo, Bloom
